In 1999 Buwa and Soweto Community merged to create Jozi FM. Since then Jozi FM has grown to become the largest community radio station in the country. Jozi FM boasts a significantly competitive audience of 564,000 (RAMS Nov 2009), with a footprint which includes Soweto and the surrounding areas and a 4-10 LSM.

Jozi FM has hogged headlines over the years with an array of reasons including being the first community radio station to be listed on DSTV’s Audio bouquet.  This has significant widened our footprint throughout the country and Africa.

Our success is greatly attributed to a strong focus to the needs of our geographical market. Our listeners are a sophisticated people who know what they want and will ensure that they get it. We have been successful in understanding their needs which range from education, information and fun and entertainment.

Being a community radio not only defines our geographical coverage, but also mandates us with special social and community elements. Such a mandate is integral and imbedded within all our operational areas, whether its programming, marketing, sales, training and community participation.

To continue our path to growth, visibility and differentiation, we have recently unveiled our new identity which includes a new logo, payoff line. We are continually adding other platforms, namely: website, mobi, audio streaming, outdoor branding. Our payoff line , MORE THAN JUST RADIO, was chosen by our listeners. In this, they emphasized what Jozi FM is to them, namely: a companion, a way of life, a friend etc. This relationship with our listeners can successfully be exploited by cients in their favour as they seek to promote and enhance their brands as we have successfully done for the past 14 years.
